INTERVIEWS: 8 THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND BEFORE APPEARING FOR AN INTERVIEW

What is an Interview? An interview is nothing but just a conversation where an interviewer asks questions which have to be answered by an interviewee.

So, it is nothing of the sort to be afraid of. It is just a casual interaction between the organisation/ company and the applicant. We all have to face interviews, one day or the other, so its better that we master them and learn the strategies to crack those daunting interviews. Interviews are something that we have to deal with, starting from schools and colleges to the company you are seeking job for. It is interesting to note that even an entrepreneur faces interview like situation in convincing his/her clients to choose their services.

So, here are some tips that you must keep in mind before appearing for an interview:

DRESS NICELY AND SMELL GOOD:

Even the basic of the basic things are noticed, so it is important that you take some time out to focus on the way you dress. Your whole body attire matters a lot, so you should be well -combed, rightly dressed with well polished shoes. Usually formal white shirt with black trousers is considered good clothing. Strictly avoid wearing jeans and a T-shirt.

Apart from dressing, you must also smell good. Poor body odour is the thing you might not want. So, a little perfume would do the work.

BODY POSTURES AND GESTURES:

Your body speaks a lot for you. It is important that we keep an eye on our body language. Also there are some postures and gestures which needs to be kept in mind. Seeking permission to enter, greeting with a smile , sitting straight without making any unnecessary movements, making good eye contact are some of the considerable aspects. Also remember to sit, only when you are asked to.

DO YOUR HOMEWORK:

A little homework before sitting in an interview is a must thing. You must thoroughly research and be aware of the organisation and job position you are appearing for. You must introspect and be well versed with your area of interest, your strengths , your weaknesses etc. One can also prepare himself by giving mock interviews before the final examination.

BE CONFIDENT:

This is the golden key to the golden door of your success. Be confident. Stop being nervous. A confident person always has a higher probability of selection. Even if you don’t know the answer to a question, confidently saying, “PARDON SIR/MAM, I AM NOT AWARE OF THIS” leaves a positive impact.

SPEAK BRIEFLY AND TO THE POINT:

It is important that we do not over speak while answering the interviewer. Speaking much more than what is asked may work opposite for you. You might speak something that the organisation does not want. For example, speaking that you are introvert while applying for the position of PRO is not a very good thing.

BE HONEST:

Stop being dishonest. Inscribe this thing right into your mind, because what you think that you can fool the interviewers by concealing the truth, does not work at all. In one or the other question, you will be exposed. So always tell them truth, no matter if that is something negative about you. The panel sitting in front of you appreciates your honesty.

AVOID TECHNICAL JARGON:

Avoid using highly technical words that interviewers are not aware of. Using nice vocabulary leaves a good impression, but using excess of vocabulary might create an awkward situation. This also creates an impression of you being boastful in nature.

BE POSITIVE AND KEEP CALM:

Keep a positive attitude towards every situation. No need to panic even if you are struck somewhere. Stay calm. We are humans and not computers, so it is expected not to be aware of each and everything. Tackling the situation smartly and calmly gives you a plus point.
